In association with our South Australian art centres, we are delighted to present Desert and Coast, a survey of contemporary painting for Aboriginal art centres in South Australia. The exhibition is installed throughout the Adelaide Airport.

South Australia is home to many of the nation's finest desert art studios. Within a relatively short space of time, the artists from these community owned and governed centres have captured the hearts and minds of collectors around the world. Many of them have works held in public institutions and have been widely published in books, journals and reviews. Most of them have been selected for major art prizes such as the Telstra National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Award, the WA Indigenous Art Award, the Alice Award, Kate Challis RAKA Award.

Without doubt, South Australia is the southern gateway to the heart of remote Aboriginal Australia. We invite you to journey through the APY Lands desert and down to the coast of Ceduna. Tap into the great wonders of 40,000 years of creative practice!
